2012 Kia Rio Performance & Safety

6 Airbag System

Advanced airbags come with the very latest in seat belt technology, including pre-tensioning and load limiting systems that offer maximum protection in the event of airbag deployment

Safety Window

One-touch up and down operation with anti-pinching technology

Transmission

6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Engine

Max Power of 138hp @ 6.300 rpm, Max Torque of 123 lb-ft @ 4850 rpm and displacement of 1,591cc.

Eco Dynamics Package

ISG (Idle Stop & Go) & AMS (Alternator Management System). ISG and AMS help squeeze more energy out of every drop of fuel. ISG automatically switches off the engine when the car is brought to a full stop, and automatically restarts it when accelerating.

Aerodynamic

Wind forces not only generate noise but also create drag, which lowers fuel economy. With the help of wind tunnel testing, engineers have succeeded in reducing these drag forces to an absolute minimum.

Low Rolling Resistance Tires

Made with special silica compounds and featuring smaller profiles, low rolling resistance tires improve fuel economy.

Front Bumper Lip

Painstaking attention to small details such as the front bumper lip improves overall aerodynamic performance.

Rear Spoiler

The profiles of the rear spoiler and side mirror housings also help reduce aerodynamic drag forces.

ESC (Electronic Stability Control)

ESC features an electronic control unit that receives input from individual wheel speed sensors, yaw sensor, steering angle sensor and engine RPM. The system applies the brakes on individual wheels to improve vehicle control in precarious driving conditions.

Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC)

HAC ends all worries about the car accidentally rolling backwards on a hill, no matter how steep the incline. Upon removing the foot from the brake pedal, HAC retains braking grip until the accelerator is applied, and then releases its grip. Operating automatically and transparently, HAC does not require any intervention from the driver.

VSM (Vehicle Stability Management)

The VSM next-generation braking system operates in tandem with ESC to safely negotiate asymmetrical driving situations, like those encountered when one side of the car runs over a wet or slippery surface such as an ice patch and loses traction. VSM is bundled with the MDPS option.
